Ace Ventura (Jim Carrey) é um detetive especializado em desvendar crimes envolvendo animais. Apesar de viver cercado de bichos, ele não tem muito trabalho no cotidiano. Entretanto, quando o golfinho do Miami Dolphins, equipe de futebol americano, é sequestrado, Ace finalmente tem um caso a investigar. Atrapalhado como é, ele conduz a investigação de uma maneira bem peculiar.
